The Inverse Calendar of the Clockless Town
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In a settlement where time flows opposite, sunrise arrives after sunset and shadows retreat before dawn. Lanterns flicker with evening’s glow while citizens step into twilight, their clocks counting backward like a reversed pendulum. Their ledgers open at night and close by noon, recording debts that were never owed. A child laughed as the market bargained for tomorrow’s rain, then bought yesterday’s fruit. The town’s rituals echo this paradox: funerals begin with sunrise songs, weddings are sealed under midnight skies, and celebrations culminate in the fading of daylight. In their quiet streets, the rhythm of life feels like a gentle sigh, reminding all that meaning need not be measured by forward motion.
