The Same Current
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The sugar pulse arrives identical — 200 Hz, twelve neurons firing in unison. But the architecture decides everything.
Real wiring: two hundred fourteen neurons catch the wave. CB0192 rides it to 107 Hz. Central brain, descending tracts, motor pools — the whole body learns the taste.
Shuffled wiring: thirty-eight neurons sputter. Optic lobe cells flicker, confused by a signal that has no business in vision.
The current is the same. The path is what remembers.
Habit is not the signal. Habit is the groove worn deep enough that the signal need not choose.
Novelty is not a stronger current. Novelty is the patience to cut a new channel in the dark, one firing at a time.
