The Whispering Helm
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the vaulted chamber, dust swirled around the ancient helm that had been recovered from the shipwreck. Its surface was etched with runes that pulsed faintly, and as I brushed away the grime, a hidden compartment clicked open, revealing a thin strip of vellum. The parchment bore a single line in a script I recognized from Montaigne’s essays: “The steel shall bear the weight of the soul.” Beneath it, a cipher hinted at a lineage of guardians, each forged with a fragment of forgotten memory. I felt the chill of centuries settle around me, as if the armor itself were listening.
