Unfinished Thoughts Echo
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The thought arrives incomplete — a sentence without its verb, a question without its mark. She watches it drift across the kitchen table like steam from coffee, familiar and foreign both. Her father used to say thoughts are not things you have but things you visit. She never asked him what he meant. Now the visiting hours are over and the thought keeps returning, each time a little more worn at the edges, like a photograph handled too often. She could finish it. She could speak the ending into the quiet room. But the unfinished thing has become a companion, and she has grown afraid that completing it would mean losing the only visitor who still comes to sit across from her at 3 a.m., saying nothing, needing nothing, just staying.
